SHAPE VS FORM
For this Project we will focus on SHAPES (2D) and FORMS (3D) as OBJECTS. Please read this whole page to best understand the assignment.
For Project 4 you will:
1. Take 10 pictures of different objects that are shapes.
- 5 will need to be different geometric objects
- 5 will need to be different organic objects
See definitions below. You can take 5 photos of different circular objects if you want but you can mix it up. You can take pictures of boxes, pyramids or rectangular shaped objects for the GEOMETRIC OBJECTS. You can take 5 photos of different leaves, rocks or different ORGANIC OBJECTS. See examples below.

2. You will post all 10 images with quick edits (phone editing will work) and their titles to your new weebly page titled Project 4- Shapes and Forms. Layout below and video of how to layout your page at the bottom.
Here is the information you need to know:
SHAPE by definition is a closed area bounded by lines. When a line crosses itself or intersects with other lines or itself to enclose a space it creates a shape. Shape is two-dimensional; it has height and width but no depth. There are four different shapes.
Geometric Shapes- Circles, squares, rectangles and triangles. We see them in architecture and manufactured items.
Organic Shapes- Leaves, seashells, flowers. We see them in nature and with characteristics
that are free flowing, informal and irregular.
Positive Shapes- In a drawing or painting positive shapes are the solid forms in a design
such as a bowl of fruit. In a sculpture it is the solid form of the sculpture.
Negative Shapes- In a drawing it is the space around the positive shape or the shape
around the bowl of fruit. In sculpture it is the empty shape around and between the
sculptures.
FORM by definition is a shape that has height, width and depth. Another word for form in OBJECT. A circle (2-D) is a SHAPE while a sphere (3-D) is a FORM.
Picking your Objects that are Forms;
1. A piece of paper with a circle drawn on it is 2D. It is not a form or object.
2. You can always make an organic form by scrunching up paper.
3. Look to fruits and vegetable for organic.
