Shadows

Shadows are not simply a dark mass that borders the light. Rather, shadows are an entity as alive as the light. It is the shadows that shape the light, draw attention to the light, and integrate with the light to produce striking photographic opportunities.

Barcelona Airport, Spain

Purpose: To take images that use shadows as the theme in your photographs. Focus on light while creating images. Shape and Texture need to be present in a meaningful way.

Assignment:  For this photo project you will use shadows as the main technique in your photos.  In other words, the shadow really "makes" the photo and holds the focus of the viewer - without it the photo would not be as effective or wouldn't exist at all.  In order to do that you will need to pay special attention to light.

For this assignment, you have a great opportunity to communicate mystery and make the viewer wonder what is going on in the photo.  Take 20 photos and post your best 10 with titles only on your Weebly.

NOTE- You do not need to include what is making the shadow.

For Credit
You will take 10 UNIQUE SHADOW photos and edit your best 5. I recommend you make them black and white either with the Black and White or Desaturate in Adjustments.
Post your 5 unique Shadows image with TITLES ONLY.
Publish on your NEW Weebly page titled Reflections and Shadows.

Check out the examples below. This is just to help generate your ideas.  You should also look at Google images or other pho
tographer's work. Pinterest also has some interesting images for inspiration.

Use shadows to give clues about what the what the rest of the objects might look like.

Try creating shadows mixed with items that aren't shadows.  Think deeper than you do for a snapshot.
