Architecture and Blue Prints

Taking photographs of Architecture or a Location such as a shop window is an excellent way to express how you fell about that place. To achieve this you will need to be aware of such things as lighting and viewpoint. Time of day is also a major factor. You may choose to shoot at dawn, noon, in the evening, dusk or after dark. If shooting a city scene, take advantage of the street lights but I do not want the lights in the image. The light you choose can really add drama, emphasis and mood to your photos. Make sure to crop the image within your viewfinder. Plan your composition. Take pictures from different angles and perspectives. Take wide angles shots that show the whole building as well as close ups. You need 5 buildings. The more variety the better your later projects will be.

This project will utilize your skill to find building (see specifics below) and sculptures to take photos of at unique angles. You will need to find 5 unique BUILDINGS or SCULPTURES.

You will learn how to make Blue Prints. Making images black and white, using filters and making frames.

You may NOT include the following:
COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS
PERSONAL HOME
People or animals
TREES can be included if they do not distract

ALWAYS EDIT IMAGES WITH ADJUSTMENTS IN PHOTOSHOP FOR CREDIT AND ALL IMAGES MUST BE NEW.
Photo Guidelines
You must turn in a minimum of 25 of your best photos to your Architecture folder. Do not include people or animals in your photos and minimize trees and landscaping.

TIPS
Many student drive around U of M or EMU campus. Do not get out of your car if there are a lot of people. But roll down your window and selective crop your images in your camera before you take them.

Save all photos taken in a folder named “Your name- Architect Photos”.
Edit 3 per building/location (you did 5 buildings/locations so that means 15 images) in Photoshop with Adjustments.

You will post 3 images per building/location-

The first 2 images from the set are straight edits and the the 3rd image is a Blueprint

Artist Statements including Titles for each image. You are to write a one-paragraph (3 to 5 sentences) narrative to accompany each of the locations you photographed (5) and title your photos (15) you post to your Weebly. Your statement should discuss what & where you chose to take your photos, why you choose the composition and what feeling are you trying to convey. Please include any trial, errors and triumphs you had with the photos.

Post on your new Weebly page titled Architecture the following:

5 Different Building/ Location Sets

All 5 Building/ Location Sets has 3 different images (15 images)
One of these 3 images per set is a Blue Print (see demo below for how to do this)
Each image has a Title (15)

All 5 Building/ Location Sets has an Artist Statement
