Digital Photography: Photoshop Techniques
For this assignment you’ll learn many different digital photography techniques by reading the
tutorials. You will use the tutorials to create images similar to the ones in the tutorials. The tutorials are titled:
1) PS Adding Focus (2 images), which shows you how to blur the background to emphasize the
subject.
2) PS Art History (2 images), which shows you how to make photographs look like paintings.

3) PS Black & White (2 images), which shows you how create a full range of tones in a black and
white photo. Try this technique on more than one photo to get a great B&W photo.
4) PS Comic Book Portrait (2 portraits), which shows you how to give your photo a retro comic
5) PS Cubism (2 images), which shows you how to make a photo look like a cubist painting.

6) PS Cyanotypes (2 images), which shows you how to recreate one of the very first photography
experiments.
7) PS Expressionism (2 images), which shows you how to make a photo look like an Expressionist painting similar to The Scream by Edvard Munch.

12) PS Patterned faces (2 images), which shows you how to put a funky pattern on your face.
13) PS Pointillists (2 images), which shows you how to create a pointillists painting from a photo.

14) PS Romantic Landscape (2 images), which shows you how to make a photo look like a 19th
15) PS Sepia Effect (2 images), which show you how to create a sepia tone photograph and a
duotone photograph.
16) PS Surrealism (2 images), which shows you how to create a Salvador Dali-type surreal painting by combining photos in Photoshop.

17) Caricature (2 images (practice image does NOT count)), which shows you how to create
a caricature drawing.
18) Paul Cezanne (2 images, images (practice image does NOT count)), which shows you how to
create an impressionist painting.

Begin by looking through all of the above PDFs. Notice the types of photos that are used for each
technique, for example, the expressionism technique uses a portrait photo that has a blurry
background. When you do this technique you should have a similar photo or the technique will not turn well. Note: You may have to take more photos at home to bring in for this assignment and with this example you may have to blur the background before you begin
.
Once you have looked through the PDFs, you will go through your original photos and choose
photos that will work BEST for each technique or take new ones. You may NOT use images that you have used for other assignments and posted on you weebly for credit.

You will complete 3 of the techniques. You will have at least 8 images in total and each image is worth 10 points. You will need to turn them in on your PUBLISHED WEEBLY. Unpublished or not done work will receive a zero.
